    Dear euronews,
Europe desperately needs an identity with which an average European can identify him/herself. This cannot easily be done by Governments (who have failed to communicate with the people). But the news media can help – euronews has done this in reporting on the Olympics – I notice that on the medals table, you have included European Union medals at the bottom! Excellent – maybe some people whose countries have won no medals (eg Portugal) may have a good feeling in identifying themselves with Europe – it’s only a start. But if we all have national and EU flags flying officially over public buildings, why can we not have both national and EU flag at the Olympics – opening ceremony, medals ceremonies, etc ? Cannot national TV stations also report on Europeans’ performance – rather than only on their own athletes’ performance – this would have an awareness effect! Can the Commission not take some initiatives/suggestions in this direction?

BTW, your all new euronews (pure!) is a come down and literally grey or colourless!! Unattractiveness – pure!....

Dear viewer, Thanks for your comments. We should point out that Portugal won two medals at the Games — a gold and a silver. Regarding our image, the revamp was badly needed and, overall, the new presentation reflects euronews’ values and style better than the old version.

Although I am not a long-time viewer of euronews just started watching this year, I do watch it frequently, and I have never come across any coverage of events in Romania specifically but also other Eastern European countries. In fact I find it rather biased towards Western Europe France, Britain, Germany, etc. I’m sure some one has brought this up before, but I wanted your take on it.

    02.09.08

Dear viewer euronews has a greater commitment to providing coverage of events in eastern Europe than any of our competitors. We devote more air time to major stories like elections, for example, than other international news broadcasters and are more willing to cover domestic issues that other channels would ignore. euronews also provides an afternoon bulletin in Romanian on TVR 2. However, we are keen to expand our coverage and are always on the look-out for stories. If you or other viewers in eastern Europe are aware of something that might be of interest to an international audience, please drop us a line. We will put it on the agenda if we can get the pictures.

Dear euronews,I have been a fan of your channel for years, i just loved it! Since you have changed the layout I just don’t recognize the program! It’s just not enjoyable to watch… More than that it’s just disappointing! Quite impersonal, even depressing! We used to enjoy the weather program: just casually discover what what going on in the world weatherwise on a cool lighthearted tune… in between all the serious things going on in the world… Now it’s just scary with the most depressing robotic music and dull greyish blue graphics.. It’s like watching a program on the end of the world! The rest is just as dull and just isn’t working! And the final stroke… now we have to painfully endure the obnoxious ads from Qatar Airways! Have you sold your soul????Please keep the good work on journalistic matters.. but don’t try too hard…

The Spanish unemployment figures, current financial and social forecast comes as no surprise to a lot of Spaniards and foreign observers. Over the years there has been a less than expected proportionate tourist growth in spending as other emerging tourist markets take up the slack despite the industry reinventing itself with cultural/ inland and rural tourism. The Euro, static wages, rising prices, singular focused construction industry and financially squeezed people seeking alternative property investment in North Africa, middle and Eastern Europe/ Mediterranean has all played its part. Surprisingly enough Spanish banks have made substantial purchases abroad so someone has been benefiting, but hardly the average Spaniard who pays disproportionately more for various goods than Northern Europeans as well as house and mortgage costs. All is not so Costa Del Sunny with longer hours, job insecurity, meagre safety nets and less pay being the order of the day. Parts of Spain in recent times have become synonymous with organised crime and political corruption with the term “CorruptoEspaña” coined by comedians. The “mañana mentality” is a fallacy as it is difficult to invest, risk or even save for a personal pension for most Spaniards. The average Spaniard deserves much better than they have thus far received from their government.

European and global government’s oblivion to the needs of its citizens. A survey of 2,000 people in a European country found that 36% would not last more than 11 days without serious financial problems in the event of loosing their jobs. Most people who are wage dependent will always suffer to a greater extent in volatile financial periods and this is simply not tackled proactively or seriously enough by those who are in positions of power. People generally do not feel secure in their jobs and future or believe that their leaders are conducting themselves in a fit manner.A fair education and or good experience will not determine you finding a reasonable job. Most affected are the young, divorced, with dependents and those entering middle age, so the percentage figure in one country can equally reflect in many others.Free markets are all well and good, but their conduct often fails to follow consolidated long term view principals other than self satisfying agendas. In many documented cases without concerns for key issues or damaging results that later return to plague them and society in general. Globalisation does not have to be a dirty word, but the obesity of the few to the detriment of the majority has proven not to be the way forward. Mega rich newly found altruism of placing a plaster on the world is not sufficiently redeeming. The time of empty political rhetoric, diatribe, our naivety, lack of regard for our resources whatever they may be, national financial malfeasance and duplicity along with strong arm tactics has to be planted in the past because the clear result is that everybody looses out in one way or another. We as a race of beings have reached a stage of development able and deserving of better for all. Honest and just fair opportunity, accessibility to re/education, health and basic freedoms and rights free of crippling bureaucracy and pointless prejudice. PS. euronews Feedback, please allow for formatting it makes text a more palatable to read.

Dear Sir/Madam, How are news items obtained by euronews TV. The reason I ask is that in Malta, there was a tragedy at sea where three fishermen lost their lives, one 11 year old boy is still missing and another fisherman was saved after six days drifting in the Mediterranean after something happened to their fishing vessel which sank. I believe that had this been broadcast on euronews TV, more help may have been enlisted by other countries and more lives saved.

    Dear viewer
Our sources are the international news agencies and our partner channels. If none of these provides information on events we cannot report on them. The images may simply not have been available to us, irrespective of any editorial decision to run the story or not. Head of English Service

    30.07.08

    Dear John,
I will take your campaign for more cricket coverage to the Sports Editor. There are one or two very keen cricketers here who share your views. Head of English Service

What will the G8 accomplish other than increasing their CO2 footprint, tax draining misuse of funds and inability to act cohesively on anything for the benefit of all? Many media commentators have nothing but scathing attacks, distrust, anger and incredulity. This common theme shows the diminishing belief in leaders locally or internationally achieving what most want for themselves as well as others fair opportunities in health, education, career, training, food pricing, fuel renewable, environmental and security issues. What they are confronted with is ever increasing distances between wealthy and poor, grossly lacking faith in future prospects, injustice, hypocrisy and immoral underhandedness by shameless childlike bickering politicians closing their eyes to national and internationally serious issues. How close are we to the ugly face of ageism, xenophobia and hysteria arising as the rationality of the individual is replaced by the mindset of the mob? The problems appear more complex than they may truly be and solutions are within reasonable reach. The only conclusion that can be drawn is that the powers that be simply do not consider the problems facing this planet important enough to agree on resolving anything fairly and efficiently.

I would appreciate it very much if we could listen to your excellent news without being distracted by the English being used by some of your commentators! Some of the voices are so unnatural, overemphasizing certain words in a way which renders the English an ugly and irritating language. I would love to be able to concentrate on the content of your news instead.

    12.07.08

    Dear viewer,
Food for thought. It’s central to euronews’ ethos to not let comment, style or presentation distract from the news. I think we achieve that overall, but there’s always room for improvement. A couple of examples of where you thought we fell short would have helped but we will take your message on board. Head of English section
