Dear euronews,

I am a student of translating and I really have to say what a great job you’re doing! This site is very useful, since we are able to read/listen to the exact same articles in different languages. It is practical for learning translating. However, I somehow agree with sabine.franke about the corresponding of the spoken and the written text. They are very similar but than again not identical. When it comes to translation training it would be better to make it match, at least in the articles, where the text almost matches already (e.g. the news section).

Furthermore, since I am from Slovenia, I am especially interested in articles about new european countries. I would be thankful if there were more articles from this part of Europe in future.

Anyway, I’m grateful for this site, so keep on doing such a great job!

I really enjoy surfing this webpage. I think it is a fabulous way to keep oneself informed and up-to-date. Since I am studying Translation and Interpreting, euronews is also very helpful in terms of improving my language skills or learning new vocabulary. As a result I appreciate that the articles are translated into so many different languages. This way I cannot only improve my English but also my skills in other foreign languages. I also like the no comment section because it expresses so much without using any words. However, since I am very much into sports, I am missing somehow a single section dedicated to sports. Nevertheless I think you are doing a great job. So keep it up!

Dear euronews,

This is a brilliant and well-informing homepage! I really enjoy reading through the articles or have a look at “no comments” because you just start thinking about what these pictures want to express. People are able to activate their imagination and they may start to understand people in other countries. I think it’s very informing; the articles aren’t too long or detailed, you get the most important out of them and so you keep up-to-date with the whole world news. I like that a lot! Another positive point is that you can listen to the videos while reading the article or listen to it afterwards. That’s a good exercise for language learners like me because we can work on our pronunciation and spelling at the same time (including new vocabulary ;) Well, just keep on working like that!

Re: ‘Washington’s biggest bank bail-out yet. News item.’ It is staggeringly near incredible how all too often and now sharply in the public eye; those at the top of the ladder in industry, commerce, finance and politics who gain so much and receive inflated bonuses are practically given cart blanche despite playing a substantial part in so much misery and suffering. We the stupid masses will eat cake whilst those glutinous scum sit in ivory castles sucking our bone marrow. We had the age of reason, law, power, but how many more regular folk must suffer or perish before we see an age with some ethical value. Is it truly impossible for people with a modicum of integrity to prevail? Must we remain as in debt slaves to the whims of the powerful for a contrived flag or corporate logo?

I really enjoy the concept of your site. Listening to the news while reading the words is quite helpful for me as a language learner. But I’d like to know why is it that most of the time – or so it seems – the spoken and the written text don’t correspond completely but only to a certain extent. In my opinion an all-or-nothing approach would be better.

First of all thank you for your reply. I can easily specify couple of cultural events that you should have put at your bulletine from Turkey.
Salvador Dali exhibition is still at Sabancı museum in Istanbul. Picasso has just ended. Istanbul International Jazz Festival or Antalya Altın Portakal Film Festival which hosted many international stars in Antalya this year.

I am only writing this because youalways published every little exhibition or art gallery events from Spain or France. I’ve been watching you for years regularly and I enjoy euronews. As an International politics expert, I expect objectivity and more networking at all European countries not just Spain-Italy-France-Uk.

euronews should embrace whole Europe, not just the big 5 players in the continent. As a future member state, I would and nearly 80 million Turkish people in Europe would like to see more coverage from Turkey.

At your airport meteo, there are all cities but Istanbul Ataturk Airport!! Why is that? There is even Athens and many others. Istanbul Ataturk is handling more than 26 million pasangers a year. So many people are interested to see its weather forecast too dear euronews!!!!

Plus you give alot of cultural event info but not from Turkey!!! 70 million people with many international events are being organized in Turkey. Whatever you put about Turkey on the news are just negative. Be objective and not discriminate the countries.

Good evening from North Wales,

I have been watching your station for more years than I care to remember and there is a point about the station I would like to bring to your attention: do you (by this I mean euronews) intend to produce or have you considered producing a Welsh-language dub of euronews to be broadcast daily on S4C?

I believe doing this will supplement the news produce already available on the channel and allow Welsh speakers to uncover stories about the rest of Europe and the rest of the world in their own language. I am aware that you currently produce a Romanian dub that is broadcast daily but would you believe it useful and/or preferable to do the same for an admittedly minority language?

I imagine that the dub of euronews in Welsh would also help learners of the language (myself included) to better improve their knowledge of the language with vocabulary typical of a news broadcast but in a different language.

Another point is the issue of dialect: much of the Welsh-language media is said to be in South Walian, a far less conservative variant than my own dialect, North Walian. This is to say the notion of a standard language is somewhat lost as far as Welsh is concerned, so it would be difficult for a news company to hire narrators and to indirectly translate the scripts. What type of verb conjugation would you use? What vocabulary would you use? Such questions must be asked of Welsh.

Finally, I would say for this version of euronews to benefit from its potential audience would require it to be broadcast in the evenings, when most Welsh speakers would be watching S4C.
