The European Food Safety Authority has raised concerns over cloned food, despite saying there is no evidence of a danger to humans.

A European Commission report from the Italian-based food standards agency, talked of significant animal health and welfare issues for cloned animals that can be more severe than for conventional livestock. But they admit there is still not much evidence.

Supporters insist cloning is safe, claiming technology will bring more milk and better meat through disease resistant animals.

But opponents argue scientists are still unsure about the possible effects.

The EU plans to carry out an EU-wide consumer survey on the issue.

In a recent poll by the International Food Information Council, more than half of shoppers said they would not buy cloned food.
